Turner Syndrome is a condition that occurs when one of the X chromosomes is missing or partially missing. This condition only affects females and is the most common sex chromosomal abnormality among females.
Symptoms
Symptoms before birth include:
edema around the back of the neck
heart/kidney problems
Symptoms during infancy include:
short stature
wide/weblike neck
low hairline at the back of neck
small/receding lower jaw
arms that turn outward at the elbows
broad chest
widely spaced nipples
narrow fingernails and toenails
flat feet
Symptoms in childhood, teenage years, & adulthood include:
stunted growth
lack of growth spurts
short stature
delayed/absent puberty
smaller than average ovaries
infertility
Treatment
Treatment for Turner Syndrome includes:
growth hormone therapy
estrogen therapy
progestin therapy
