Asthma
#27
Asthma is a chronic lung disease in which there is swelling, inflammation, and tightening of the airways, causing difficulty breathing. People who have relatives who have asthma or have another allergic condition are more likely to develop asthma than those who don’t.
Symptoms
Some common symptoms of asthma are coughing, chest pain/tightness, wheezing when exhaling, and shortness of breath. The severity of asthma symptoms may vary from person to person, and they may not be around all the time, but instead flare up when triggered. Triggers of asthma symptoms include exercise, dust, chemical fumes, pollen, smoke, and allergies.
Treatment
Many people with asthma carry inhalers with them, in case of an asthma attack. People with asthma may also take long-term medications to keep asthma attacks under control. Medications may also be used during an asthma attack for quick relief.
