Tinnitus is the perception of sound that does not have an external source. It can include ringing, buzzing, hissing, swooshing, whistling, and clicking.
Causes
In many cases, there is no exact cause. However, some common causes include:
hearing loss
ear infection
noise exposure
certain medications
head/neck injury
Types of Tinnitus
Subjective tinnitus:
only you can hear the noises
99% of all tinnitus cases
Objective tinnitus:
both you and other people can hear the noises
very rare; only about 1% of tinnitus cases
