Cerebral palsy is a group of conditions caused by damage to the developing brain (e.g., stroke, infection, traumatic head injury), affecting a person’s movement, muscle control, and posture.

Symptoms

Symptoms and their severity vary based on each person.

• stiff or floppy muscle tone

• tremors

• difficulty walking/gait

• difficulty with fine motor skills

• delays in speech development

• difficulty swallowing & eating

• learning disabilities

• seizures

• trouble with vision & hearing

• bladder & bowel issues

• scoliosis

Treatment

Cerebral palsy cannot be cured, but treatments can include:

• physical, speech, and occupational therapy

• drug treatments

• surgery
