Knock Knees
#39
Knock knees, also known as genu valgum, is a condition where the knees turn inward while the ankles remain normal. It is usually seen in children around the ages of 3 - 6. Causes of knock knees include obesity, injuries to the leg(s), bone infection, or genetic conditions like skeletal dysplasia. However, knock knees are most commonly seen because of a child’s normal growth and development and will usually go away on their own.
Symptoms
Symptoms of knock knees include an awkward/unusual walking pattern, touching knees, and feet that are rotated outwards.
Treatment
Knock knees go away in around 99% of children by the time they turn 7, so no treatment is needed. In severe cases, surgery may be done to correct the position of the knees when a child gets older.
